Girlz R Dum
Tonight, I went to the talent show at my high school and sat amongst a pack of junior high girls, and I was taken aback when they took to swooning at the explanation of one of the songs.
What?! I said, He just explained that he wrote this song to his ex-girlfriend to apologize for returning to "carnivorous ways" (which happened to be the title) after he had promised to be a vegan for her.
Girls are strange. Why is that romantic? (1)The song is about meat, (2)the song is about him going back on a promise, and (3) the song is about meat!
Furthermore, none of those girls made any sort of vocal expression of awe or wistfulness when a disproportionately talented musician took the stage and played a very well-written song with a meaningful theme.
What?! I said, You swoon over the meat song but not over this man in a turtle neck playing an acoustic guitar? What is wrong with you?
I promptly developed an infatuation with this under-appreciated guy (who had a nice mop of curly hair) to make up for the lack of response from my section of the auditorium.
Then, I gave up the infatuation because that too was dumb, and I realized that true talent doesn't need acknowledgement of that sort. It would be degrading to be swooned over and pasted on bedroom walls belonging to pre-teenage girls.
And I mean in no way to discredit the Carnivorous performance. It was good but not intended to elicit affection from hormonal females.
All in all, I don't know where I'm going with this. I'm just glad I've moved past that stage of feminine development. It's a relief to be able to listen to music without worrying whether or not the musician is attractive.
